|Rep. Reid Ribble Joins Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson to Announce Major Investment at Outagamie County Regional Airport Over $6 Million in Grant Funding Will Create Jobs, Develop Infrastructure|
APPLETON, Wis. - Today, Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson was joined by U.S. Representative Reid Ribble to announce grant funding awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of roughly six million dollars for infrastructure development at Outagamie County Regional Airport. The federal funding will cover ninety percent of project costs, while the state and county will each contribute five percent.
“This is an excellent example of how all levels of government can work together to leverage limited resources to create short-term private sector construction jobs while laying the groundwork for sustained, long-term economic growth,” said Nelson. “I would like to thank our federal legislators for supporting this important investment in our infrastructure”.
The funding will be used to make improvements to runway 12/30 and two taxiways, taxiway bravo and taxiway november. In addition, the final section of the airport perimeter road will be constructed. Improvements to runway 12/30, taxiway november and perimeter road will begin in early August and will be complete before winter. Work has already begun on the taxiway bravo project.
“A sound infrastructure goes hand in hand with a sound economy,” said Rep. Ribble. “I am proud of this project because the improvements to Outagamie County Regional Airport will not only benefit northeast Wisconsin, but the entire state.”
The project is also utilizing a sustainable approach, with the excavated material being recycled as base material on the other airport projects.
“This approach cuts down on transportation and material costs, positively impacting the bottom line as well as the environmental impact of the project,” commented Airport Director Marty Lenss.
While they were unable to attend Monday’s event, other members of the congressional delegation conveyed their support for the project.
Congressman Tom Petri, Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, commented, "I am well aware of the importance of the Outagamie airport in keeping the Fox Cities well connected to the rest of the country and the world beyond it. The ability to travel easily is one of the factors that makes the Fox Valley such a great place to live and do business, so I am pleased that the airport has been successful in getting these federal funds to help support the airport's infrastructure."
